It wasn't an easy one though. Scott Koerner performed well in the heat races and found himself leading the 17 kart race to the green. He held that position until lap eight when Hintzche, who started 4th, made his way by Koerner. Andy Marchiniak was able to clear Koerner 2 laps later and set his sights on the leader. While all of this action was going on up front Mid America racer Jake Finnney was beginning to move forward from his 7th place starting position. By lap 12 he made his move on Scott Dunning to take over the 4th position. A spin by Scott Koerner on lap 18 gave Finney the 3rd spot. With Koerner cleared Finney began to real in the second place kart of Marchiniak. He completed the pass for second on lap 22 but ran out of time to catch Hinztche who scored his 2nd feature win of the season. Marchiniak held on to 3rd and Dunning was able to fend off David Jacobs for 4th.
Earlier in the afternoon it was Sean Murphy holding off Kyle Shear to win the Semi Feature. Heat race wins were captured by Murphy, Dunning, Marchiniak, and Koerner.
With only 2 races to go it looks like Troy Hinztche has established himself as the man to beat. Scott Koerner and Scott Dunning are still within striking distance and Jake Finney as well as Sean Murphy and David Jacobs have really come on strong as of late. It should be an exciting finish to the season!

Fast Time: T. Many of our drivers race or work with cars on either the local or regional level. With all the knowledge and talent within the league it is no wonder why the competition is so fierce. To win a feature or even a heat race in D.K.L. is quite a feat. Over the next few months we are going to highlight some of the talented drivers who compete within D.K.L.
Our first D.K.L. driver spotlight is reserved for the 2006 Dunning Karting League champion, Andy Marchiniak. Marchiniak calls Joliet his hometown. He is an operating engineer and is employed by Camco Construction. Andy started his racing career in a drag car. He then decided to make the transition into stock cars. He has worked his way up the racing ladder from Street Stocks at Grundy County Speedway, to Limited Late Models at Illiana Motor Speedway as well as a super Late Model that Andy piloted at both Illiana and Grundy. He has won features at both Grundy and Illiana and has finished as high as 3rd in points in the Limited Late model division.
Marchiniak has raced with Dunning Karting League since day one. As a matter of fact he won the league's inaugural race. He went on to win 2 more feature events and 4 heats that season and won the championship by 8 points over Scott Dunning. Marchiniak is back to defend his title this season. In spite of missing 1 race due to an injury he still sits 11th in points and is only 8 points out of the 10th spot. Look for Andy to turn it up a notch as we head into the second half of the season.

Career Stats:
2004- 9th in Street Stock Points ( Grundy County Speedway )
12th in Limited Late Model Points (Illiana Motor Speedway )
2005- 3rd in Limited Late Model Points (Illiana Motor Speedway )
2006- 4th in Limited Late Model Points (Illiana Motor Speedway )
9th in Late Model point (Grundy County Speedway)
2007- 9th in Late Model Points (Illiana Motor Speedway )
11th in Late Model Points ( Grundy County Speedway )

12/2 Story and Results

Race number three is now in the books and much like the two before it there was excitement throughout the field. With only 10 of the 17 drivers guaranteed a spot in the feature it was a feat just to make the show. Sean Murphy led the field on the green flag but last weeks winner Scott Koerner wasn’t content with riding behind the ASA Late model competitor. By lap number two Koerner put the nose of his kart underneath Murphy. He completed the pass and began to pull away from the field. Within a few corners Andy Marchiniak put his kart in position to get by Murphy. The two made heavy contact through the “S” curves. Murphy was forced out of the groove and as a result was shuffled to the back of the pack. Unfortunately the track officials felt that the contact between Marchiniak and Murphy was too rough and the late model competitor (Marchiniak) was sent to the “sin bin” for a stop and go penalty. With all this action behind the leader, Koerner was able to pull out to a substantial lead. Meanwhile a great battle for second was shaping up between points leader Troy Hintzsche and championship contender Scott Dunning. The two ran nose to tail from lap 8 until checkered flag. They were able to weave in and out of traffic without separating. They began to reel in Koerner, but the lead was just too much to overcome. Scott Koerner was at the front of the field when the checkers fell for the second straight week. He was followed by Hintzsche and Dunning. Jake Finney was victorious in the Semi-feature and was able to make his way up to the 4th position and Dave Jacobs Jr. rounded out the top five.
It appears that Scott Koerner is on a bit of a hot streak having won 3 out of the last 4 races of the D.K.L., which included a victory in the mid-summer shootout. It looks like Koerner will be hard to beat all season long. Koerner may be the man to beat, but Troy Hintzsche is still the points leader. This ASA Late model standout has been consistently fast all season long and will certainly be hard to keep pace with! Scott Dunning will also be a force to be reckoned with for the 07/08 D.K.L. Championship. Although he has yet to win a feature this season, Dunning has finished on the podium in all three races and was one lap away from a victory in the race on 11/25. So who will take home the hardware? It’s too close to call. It may be one of these three drivers, but with such a talented group of competitors a hand full of others could be crowned champion too. Only time will tell!

                                                      Semifeature winner Jake Finney

Results:
Fast Time: Dunning: 14.89 sec.
Heat 1: Koerner, Hintzsche
Heat 2: Marchiniak, Murphy
Heat 3: Koerner, Hinzsche
Heat 4: Murphy, Marchiniak
Heat 5: Dunning, Ed Otrembiak
Heat 6: Murphy, Jacobs
Semi-feature: Finney, Brian Pejskar, Tanner Sabin, Otrembiak, Joe Gentile
Feature: Koerner, Hintzsche, Dunning, Finney, Jacobs, Murphy, Kyle Shear, Marchiniak, Pejskar, Sabin

11/25 Story and Results

The second race of the season is in the books for the Dunning Karting League and, as promised, it was an exciting race. Scott Koerner led the field of twenty-two karts to the green flag for the feature. By the end of lap one however points leader Troy Hintzche jumped to the inside of Koerner and took over the top spot. A train of karts formed behind Hinztche and as the karts soared around the race track Scott Koerner found himself on the outside looking in. Then Scott Dunning got by Koerner, followed by Sean Murphy, Andy Marchiniak, and Chris Cooling. Koerner was as far back as 6th position before he began his charge back towards the front of the field. Meanwhile up front, last week's winner Hintzche began to distance himself from the field. Behind him Dunning, Murphy, and Marchiniak were in a tight battle for second place. Dunning and Murphy made contact on lap 10 sending Murphy out of the groove and back to the sixth position. Dunning held onto the second spot while last season’s champion Andy Marchiniak took over third and Koerner moved into fourth. With 5 laps remaining Scott Koerner drove underneath Marchiniak and quietly made his way into the third spot. The turning point of the race occurred on lap 23 when leader Hinztche spun while trying to lap a group of karts. Dunning, Koerner, Murphy and Marchiniak all moved past Hintzche and continued their battle. Things once again got interesting up front when the leaders once again encountered some lapped traffic. With 2 laps remaining Dunning got held up and allowed just enough room for Koerner to get underneath. Koerner took advantage of the situation and took over the top spot. He never looked back and was able to capture his first feature win of the season. Dunning regained control and held onto the runner up position, Murphy was able to slip past Marchiniak for 3rd and Hintzche rebounded for a 5th place finish.

Earlier in the day Heat races were won by Chris Cooling, Troy Hintzche, Scott Koerner and Kyle Shear. Fast time was captured by Troy Hintzche with a lap of 30.11 seconds.
Results:
Heat 1: Cooling, Hintzche
Heat 2: Hintzche, Dunning
Heat 3: Koerner, David Jacobs
Heat 4: Kyle Shear, Koerner
Feature: Koerner, Dunning, Murphy, Marchiniak, Hintzche, Cooling, Jacob Finney, Jacobs, Brian Pejskar, Shear

Only 7 days to recuperate! Nineteen racers were on hand for the first of six races this season. If the first race was any indication of what to expect then we are in for another great season of karting action. The first heat was captured by Ed Otrembiak Jr. Scott Koerner continued his hot streak in D.K.L. by capturing heat number two. A.S.A. late model standout Troy Hinztche captured heat 3 and Pure Stock champion David Jacobs Jr. finished 1st in the final heat race.

All 19 competitors took the green flag for the 25 lap main event and right at the drop of the green flag pole sitter Troy Hinztche established himself as the man to beat. As Hinztche began to distance himself from the field the battle for 2nd intensified. Sean Murphy used consistent top heat finishes to start the race from the number 2 spot, but Chris Cooling proved to be too strong and on lap 4 the latemodel competitor took the number 2 spot from Murphy. With Murphy past Cooling set his sights on the leader (Hinztche). Meanwhile Scott Dunning began moving towards the front of the field by passing Murphy on lap 13. Lapped traffic kept the top three close but nobody was able to overcome Hintzche. The Madison Speedway regular crossed the finish line in front of Cooling who was closely followed by Dunning. Sean Murphy finished in 4th place and Scott Koerner rounded out the top five.

The next event of the D.K.L. is scheduled for November 25th. The race is scheduled to take place on Track 5. None of the D.K.L. competitors have competed on this new configuration so it should be very interesting to see who will rise to the top and take the victory!

Heat 1: Ed Otrmbiak Jr., Scott Dunning
Heat 2: Scott Koerner, Sean Murphy
Heat 3: Troy Hinzche, Murphy
Heat 4: David Jacobs Jr., Nathan Finney
Feature: Hinzche, Chris Cooling, Dunning, Murphy, Koerner, Jacobs, Brian Pejskar, N.
